Renee Crown Wellness Institute
The Renée Crown Wellness Institute (RCWI) promotes community wellness and is at the forefront of academic research. Expanding to a centralized office, the RCWI needs a space to encourage the connection between the University of Colorado and the Boulder community.
Traditional university research facilities do not offer the staff opportunities to engage with personal wellness. This design creates a space in which the RCWI and the community can further important research efforts.
Current issues
This corner is a missed opportunity for positive interaction with the site
Proposed solution
This design engages with the intersection and encourages people to flow through the site
User Requirements
Longitudinal studies need flexible work spaces, private areas for sensitive interactions, and a home for support staff and program coordinators
Permanent office space for administrative staff and leadership
Active flex-spaces for Institute sponsored events, staff use, and community engagement
Private interview space is required to protect participant information
Balanced Space
The separated volumes allow for openness and flow through the building. On the interior, the space follows the Institute's directives for balanced professional and personal life, bridged by a desire to learn and grow.
-
Create an unimposing structure that allows the community to flow in and around the space
-
A safe space for peaceful reflection in a supportive atmosphere
-
A balance of areas for focusing on research, education, and wellness within the Institute and surrounding community
